Smashing expectations
I was won over quickly by top notch musicianship and presentation of this various reunion of the Staind, despite my initial skepticism. The inclusion of James Iha and retaining Jeff Schroeder as a third guitarist made for a wall of sound and texture not present in previous years, ranking this as one of the best performances I've seen the Pumpkins now 16 times in various incarnations. Soma was just incredible, especially noticeable in songs from Siamese Dream, which were hands down the best of the show. That's not even my favorite album but the songs live had an energy brought full circle by Jimmy Chamberlain's drumming. Billy's lead guitar playing was very stoic, less indulgent than in the past, and his vocals mostly formidable. He can't get the angry screams of his youth on some of the heavier songs like Zero or Bullet, but the force of the drums and loud guitars help compensate. The setlist was stacked, long, and makes the experience well worth the investment.
